Minimum Buyin Change Underestimated
So I think I may have underestimated the difference that changing the minimum buyin at FTP from 20bb to 35bb would make. I knew it would be a big deal, but I didn't think it would make the games THIS much better. Maybe it has just been dumb luck and I have been getting good tables but the past few days, early week games I might add that usually suck, have been great. In November/December literally I would be 12 tabling and have almost all my table averages be hovering around 15% VPIP, maybe 19-21 if I was lucky. This week, they have rarely dropped below 22-27%.
I just kind of assumed not having shorties being able to play with 20bb would just force them to play a little better with 35bb but literally they are pretty much gone. I used to tag every SS with a hot pink note so that if I was stealing blinds or whatever, I noticed them in the blinds and could make the right play and not mistakenly raise and then get shoved on and have to fold. The tables used to be a sea of pink notes, now, almost none left. I think in 2k hands today I saw maybe one.
This has done tons of things to help my game. I am not sure if their presence screwed up everyones game as much as it did mine. I really think my specific strategy and style was pretty easily exploited by the SS and I have no problem admitting it. Just them being on my left really left me handcuffed and although I studied and understood the math behind re-exploiting them, I don't think I ever really correctly incorporated it into my game.
Now, I don't have to. Literally the 3-5 seats per table they were filling up, have been replaced by shitty regs or fish and its amazing. The tables used to be 2-3 regs(including me), 1-2 fish, and 3-5 SS. Now, it seems to be 2-3 regs, and 5-7 really crappy recreational players all with decent stacks over $20 that adds up to really easy money. My game style has been able to adapt how I want it, with my Attempt to Steal being able to increase how I want it to without the fear of shorties blindly shoving. Sure I get 3 bet more but it plays into my style, and i'm not stuck on the BTN with 99 facing an $8.25 shove from a 10/8.
Not only are the games more profitable, more importantly, they are so much more fun. There is just a ton of things I can do like more ISO raises, 3bets, Cbets than I ever could when there were constantly players in the pot left to act with $8. It really makes playing SOOOOO much more enjoyable and so much less of a grind. It seems to allow other players to get out of line with bluffs and stupid plays since the SS isn't there with only a few bucks handcuffing their actions/bluffs.
I could probably go on forever but I'll quit the rant here.
Long story short I feel like I am playing some great poker now, stress and pressure free, and its fun again. I will try to update a bit more now that I am getting back into things and hopefully if things keep going well I can get back into daily updates again.
Good Luck.
